With such terrific weather upon us for the next few weeks we will be taking advantage of the outdoors with classes and school activities taking place outside where possible. Our school year has had a successful launch with student timetable conflicts sorted out, extracurricular activities beginning, fall athletics preparing for their season, and the hiring of teachers completed for the semester.
Complementing our staff, we welcome back Mrs. Baxter (History), Mr. Chau (Mathematics), and Ms. Lindsay (French & Drama), and introduce teachers new to LBP; Mr. Bevington (English), Ms. Chalmers (English), Mrs. Dutt (Chemistry), Mr. Fillman (Phys. Ed. & Science), Mr. Evans (Physics), Mr. Jhajj (Transportation), Mr. McDonald (Phys. Ed.) and Mr. Rocco (Music).
“Good Things Are Going to Happen” is the motto our PEP crew adopted, as Patriots welcomed our Grade 9s to the first day; this also spread to our Welcome Back Assembly this week. Students have had the opportunity to connect with various clubs and sports during our Student and Staff Pizza Lunch that followed the assembly. It was terrific to see so many students connect with sports of Football, Boys Volleyball, Girls Basketball, Field Hockey and Cross Country. As well, with Announcement Club, Student Parliament and PEP Crew in full swing, the Concert Band, DECA, Environment Club, Peer Tutoring, School Reach, Social Justice, PRIDE and Yearbook are getting things started.
With 2017-18 being our transition year, blending the two high schools of Lester B. Pearson and M.M. Robinson, it is important you continue to stay connected with updates through the school board link HERE, as well as regularly attend our School Advisory Council (SAC) Meetings. Our first meeting will be held Tuesday Sept. 19th, which includes meeting Trustee Richelle Papin and Superintendent John Pennyfather, elect this year’s executive, and appointing two parent reps for the LBP/MMR Implementation Team responsible for this program accommodation process.
Looking forward to seeing you at upcoming school events, cheering on the playing fields, assisting with student needs and supporting the academic success of our students. Thank-you for caring.
Loraine Fedurco, Principal
