We thank everyone in our community for their never ending support of our students’ academic success and participation in the co-curricular life Pearson has offered. My special appreciation of goes to all Pearson staff who, because of their tireless devotion, enriched the lives of our students both in and out of the classroom this past year.
Congratulations and best wishes to Mrs. Vandenbroek, Department Head of Special Education, who retired with the closure of this school year. Her care and attention to ensuring accommodations for many students throughout her career have had a profound impact on the success of many students over the years. May she now enjoy many 7-day weekends!
Best wishes to our staff moving on to promotions and full-time opportunities at other Halton high schools: Ms. Andersen, Ms. Lambert, Mr. Lui, Mr. Moore, Mrs. O’Connor, Ms. Peterson, Ms. Smith, and Mrs. Svendsen.
We also express our gratitude to Long-term Occasional Teachers, Mme. Barbier, Ms. Martin Ms. Mendoza, Mr. Pender, and Mme. Smith-Fisher, who well supported our Pearson students and community during teacher absences this year. As hiring continues, we look forward to introducing new teachers after the summer.
Options for the Program Accommodation Review for Burlington high schools were put to a vote on June 7th. Of the eleven trustees, eight voted in favour of improving learning opportunities for students by merging Lester B. Pearson HS and the French Immersion Program at Dr. Frank Hayden HS with M.M. Robinson High School. This merger is to take effect September 2018 where LBP students and teachers will move together. The formation of a transition committee of school staff, parents and students to plan the transition and integration of the schools will happen after the summer holiday; a dedicated webpage will also be created on the Board website, www.hdsb.ca, to ensure stakeholders are kept informed throughout the process with respect to timelines, progress updates, as well as opportunities for involvement and input. We will work together as these plans unfold to ensure a well-supported, smooth transition occurs for our school community.
I wish our students, families and our staff a restful and well-deserved vacation. Enjoy your summer, play safe and we’ll see you in September.
Highlights of June 2017……
All our sports teams and award winners who were recognized and honoured at this year’s Athletic Banquet!
The amazing showcase of student talent; music, dance, and theatrical performances, including the famous teacher act, surrounded the incredible number of those receiving Academic Awards at our Annual Pearson Revue. A terrific celebration for all!
The awesome event created and activated by our Patriots, the Amazing Race!!! This annual event had teams of students and teachers competing through obstacle courses, quasi-edible eating adventures, egg-licious goop, and so much more, to celebrate the end of the school year.
A showcase by the Upper Middle Symphonic Band, Jazz and Singing Artists who entertained our community with their talents at our Spring Music Concert. This evening was pleasing to the ear and full of excitement for our students. Well Done!
