Welcome back to Semester Two!
Our curricular and co-curricular programs are well underway after a very successful Semester One. 99.9% of credits were earned, along with almost 60% of our students having attained Honours Standing. Overwhelming participation in athletics, the arts and school clubs continue the spirit and pride of our Patriots. We believe that a couple of factors that we introduced this year have had a significant impact: first, our teachers continue to make learning in the classroom more relevant to the student’s world through creative opportunities with technology, cross curricular projects, and exploration beyond the classroom in the community; our emphasis on building a healthier school continues with our SPARK Phys Ed Program for Grade 9's (which we plan to expand this to other grades next year); and blending these factors with our later school start, we find students are coming to class more alert and engaged. Our Breakfast Club is in full swing for Semester Two providing nutritious smoothies and food items such as toasted bagels, freshly baked muffins and even pancakes. Continuing in this vain we wish all our students an even better second semester.
The Program Accommodation and Review Process continue for all HDSB Burlington Secondary School. I remind you of our appointed LBP school representatives Steve Armstrong and Cheryl DeLugt. Should you have any questions, the email contact for them can be found under Parent Corner on our website. Regular updates about the meetings and links to the most recent anonymous PAR Community Survey were emailed to all families by the school board February 27th and remains open until March 13th; the link to the survey can also be found in this Parent Corner folder.
February brought LBP fundraising support to Halton Women`s Place through the sale of Candy Grams through Social Justice Club, and to the African Wildlife Reserve from a Bake Sale organized by our Environment Club. This month concludes with Krispy Crème Donut sales by our school band to fundraise for their upcoming Musician Clinics at Bark Lake Leadership Camp in March.
Wishing you an early Spring!
