- LBP Artifacts and Memorabilia: have identified, gathered and catalogued school http://celebratelbp.com/artifacts and memorabilia (eg. graduate composites, school plaques, pennants, yearbooks, etc) to honour and display the items in the M. M. Robinson High School as part of their mandate. They continue to develop a process by which certain items could be available to our alumni and current students, our alumni, staff or community members. Detail will be provided once known.
- LBP/MMR Student Voice Integration SubCommittee: Student leaders representing extra-curricular clubs, councils and activities from both LBP and MMR joined a meeting of the Student Voice SubCommittee to provide input about what integrated school events can occur between now and June . Re-branding of M.M. Robinson swag included discussion about design for spirit wear for 2018-19. Student Leadership will begin from scratch in September 2018 to build a renewed structure beginning in the areas of LINK/PEP Crew, Student Council and Athletic Council. Talks will continue into the semester.
With the start of the semester we thank Mr. Bevington and Mr. Surjitt who have begun teaching contracts elsewhere for semester 2 while Ms. Taylor will be leaving for another Library technician position after the March Break ; we thank them for their support of our students and school community and wish them well in the their future endeavours. We welcome back Mrs. Doyle who returns to Transportation Technology while Mr. McGraw joins us in Business this semester.
We are in full swing of excitement here at Pearson. “In like a lion” is just the way the month of February ended and March began LBP. We are very proud of the Semester 1 academic results of our students where approximately 99% of student credits were earned. Contributing to this terrific impact is our teacher focus of making learning more relevant for their students and deepening their understanding of our students’ learning profiles.

Other highlights include:
- PA Day Feb 2 and 16th were integration opportunities with LBP and MMR teachers to tour the MMR facilities and getting to know one another. In addition, teachers were presented a vision for building a culture of innovation and student excellence; exploring the shifts in the job market must now be of focus for building a culture that reflects 21st Century Global Competencies in our curriculum.
- Guidance option sheets have been collected and entered into myBlueprint; thank-you to our guidance staff and parents in assisting students make their course selections for 2018-19 school year.
- Grade 10 teachers of different subject areas are working with our OSSLT leader to reinforce key literacy skills to strengthen student confidence and ability in answering short answer questions, writing a newspaper report, writing an opinion essay, and answering multiple choice questions. This support will continue until the test on Tuesday April 10th.
- Our Girls’ Hockey team are Halton Champs!!!! They are off to GHAC this week; we wish the players and coaches the best of luck !
- Our Boys’ Hockey team gave their best effort as they faced stiff competition in the playoff tournament. As a blended team with M.M. Robinson, they have begun to build a team that can only strengthen and lead to greater victories next season.
- The Girls’ Basketball Team made the news in the publication of OFSSA Bulletin Magazine. Flip to page 10 to read more of our student’s perspective of the basketball season this year.
- Members of Student Parliament attended The Honourable Paddy Torsney’s Annual International Women’s Day Breakfast where they listened to the inspirational message of Lise Beland, Vice-President Boreal College. Since 2015, Lisa has played a key role in the creation of the Ontario Centre for Workforce Innovation. She spoke about her story of rising to her successes today despite poverty, discrimination, and biases from being raised in rural Gogama, Ontario, a small community with a long history as an Aboriginal trading route and up to the 1950's a Hudson Bay post.
- Student Parliament hosted a Red Carpet Gala Semi-formal Dance that was a great affair to raise funds for their chosen charity, Joseph Brant Hospital, and their end of the year activities.
- Spirit Wear has arrived…BUT please check any merchandise that included dates. The company is replacing incorrect dated products; contact Janet March about replacement.
What’s Coming UP …
- All Grade 12s that the $30 grad fee must be paid by this Friday, March 9 on School Cash Online. At the time of paying the fee, students will also order their souvenir grad gown and cap which is one of several expenses covered by the fee. Grads are also reminded of the deadline for all commencement awards requiring applications this Friday, March 9 at 4 pm. Details of each award can be found at http://bit.ly/GradAwards2018. - Our France/Belgium March Break Trip March 7th – March 19th. We look forward to the group sharing their adventures.
- OSSLT occurs on April 10th. As this is a requirement for graduation, students are to avoid any absence on this day.
- An evening with Dr. Alan Brown: Nelson High School is pleased to offer an evening of learning with Dr. Alan Brown, Chief of Psychiatry of Halton Health Care. On Thursday, April 5th you are invited to join us in exploring a variety of topics including:
- Proactive health and wellness strategies
- Strategies to help your teen manage stress
- Building and maintaining a relationship with your teen
You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about community resources available to you, the parents.
