It is that time when students make their course selections for next school year.
Preparing for post-secondary destinations begins in Grade 9 and all Pathways are the right pathway. At Pearson we believe that when students make appropriate Pathway choices, they will be successful in the courses they select. Our Pathways goal for this school year is for 70 % of our students to achieve at least the provincial standard in their selections by making more informed choices. Communication with their teachers and Student Services, authentic learning in the classroom, and experiential learning beyond the walls of school are in place to guide their decisions. Our staff Professional Learning has focused on this goal as we continue to strive for all students to feel welcomed, they belong, and they can better connect their learning to their world.
We depend on parents to support their youth in the decisions they make by being informed. Events linked to Pearson, be they curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular are regularly posted to our school website and outdoor sign board. Electronic messages boards were added in the mezzanine and cafeteria this winter, and along with Student Services Twitter account, students can regularly know WHAT’S UP at LBP. Parents are encouraged to follow along daily through our school website, www.lbp.hdsb.ca and many of the teacher websites connected through this link. Your commitment to raising a teenager is tough work requiring love, dedication and support – check our Parents Corner on the web for resources to assist you.
An upcoming Tell-Them-from-Me (TTFM) survey for parents will begin the evening of Student /Teacher/Parent Conferences on April 2 and posted to the website thereafter. We need to hear from you and value your input in improving education for our students.
Students will also complete the TTFM survey in May. Listen to what your sons and daughters have discovered each day when they come home from school. Participate in the parent events Pearson offers, such as, School Council, Student Services evenings, program information events, and Student/Parent/Teacher conferences; they are there to inform and support you in assisting your child to make appropriate course selections and achieve academic success. Your attendance at such events are just as important as your appearance on the sport fields,
at drama and musical productions, and social functions to be better informed of the
changes in education and the opportunities that have amplified in the past 10 years.
Above all, take time to celebrate their excellence with us.
This newsletter highlights but a few of the many exciting events that have happened over the past couple months. During this long, incredibly cold winter there has come some fabulous work completed by our students, staff and community. It may be chilly outside but our Patriots have been on fire academically, athletically, and socially!
